"Six" is the retelling of the lives of the wives of King Henry the 8th, who was a controversial king of England in the early 1500s. During his 4 decades as king, he married 6 times. His desire to leave his first marriage led to the separation of the Church of England. Many people probably know the story of Henry VIII. However, you may not know the story of his many wives. That’s where "Six" begins.
This musical focuses on the story of the six queens as they tell their difficult experiences with the king. The queens compete for who had the worst experience in being married to the king. The queens discuss divorce, rejections, adultery, and even beheadings in a way that makes you laugh while also touching your heart. There is a modern twist on the story by incorporating a dating app through a parody.
Eventually, they realize that arguing over who had the most awful time with Henry VIII is not helpful. They come to realize that Henry VIII robbed them of their individuality. They’re not just the six wives of a terrible king - they have their own strengths that deserve celebrating. The ex-wives eventually come together to write new endings to their lives. They achieve their “happily ever afters” that Henry VIII denied them by imagining what their lives would’ve been like without meeting Henry VIII.
