Bass Concert Hall

Following its 1959 premiere, it became clear that Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II’s very last creation alongside playwrights Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, was meant for global success.

A musical with a more substantial amount of adored numbers is yet to be written; no musical has ever been able to remain relevant despite its age as ‘The Sound Of Music’; and a tale as heart-warming, yet bravely addressing major social issues, is yet to be created.

No other musical has been revived as many times, had more performances around the world, and has been received with more acclaim than ‘The Sound Of Music’. It landed no less than five Tony Awards, a Theatre World Award, and an Outer Critics Circle Special Award, alongside plenty of nominations. ‘The Sound Of Music’ has also been adapted into an award-winning film released in 1965, and still enjoyed around the globe.

‘The Sound Of Music’, inspired by the 1949 memoir of Maria von Trapp, follows the tale of Maria, a free-spirited nun, who takes on the massive task as governess for Captain Georg von Trapp’s seven children, and brings much love, happiness, and of course, music, back to the family. The family is faced with many obstacles - from the threat the annexation of Austria into Nazi Germany to the blooming romance between Captain von Trapp - an engaged-to-be-married man, and Maria, who vowed to remain a nun.

The truth is that there is plenty to love about ‘The Sound Of Music’: from the unbelievable expertise of the all-star, age-defying cast, to the classic, delightful music that becomes an earworm without any effort; from the glorious orchestral delivery to the gorgeous sets that float effortlessly from a grey cathedral to the old Austrian grandeur of the Von Trapp house; from the nostalgic tale about overcoming hardship and memorable tale that has been teaching the world to sing and believe in love and music for decades to the powerhouse cast that carries their parts with excellence, masterfully delivers the much-adored music, and steals hearts from the moment the curtain rises.

‘The Sound Of Music’ is that one theatrical masterpiece that will have you smiling, swaying, singing, and swooning all at once - and most noteworthy, will bless your ears, mind, and heart with the sound of music.

‘The Sound Of Music’ coming to town is something everybody should diarize, and as usual, theatre-lovers in Texas can look forward to the Bass Concert Hall coming alive with the sound of music.
