SYNOPSIS
Many years ago, an old beggar woman arrived at the door of a prince’s castle, offering him a single rose in return for shelter, but in his vanity, he refused. After ignoring her stern warning, she turns into a beautiful enchantress and turns the prince into a hideous, unsightly, and grotesque beast, and his staff into household objects. The only thing that can break this curse, is earning the love of another before the last petal of the rose falls.
After a young, beautiful, bookish dreamy girl named Belle rushes to find her father after he got lost in the woods, she ends up at the castle. She offers herself in return for her father’s freedom, and is captured by the Beast. The quirky maître d’-turned-candelabra Lumière, household head Cogsworth who was turned into a clock, kitchen-head-turned-teapot Mrs. Potts and her teacup-son Chip, among many others, notice the potential of having a girl present – she could be the one that breaks the curse, if only they could help the impatient, bombastic, depressed Beast make her fall in love with him.
Meanwhile, back in Belle’s small provincial town, the chauvinistic Gaston has his sights set on her for marriage, and won’t stop at anything to get his way. The question is, just how far is Gaston willing to go? Will Belle fall in love with the Beast and break the curse, bringing much needed light, love, and “humanness” back to his castle?
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST has a long history of charming the world into believing in love that can overcome all once more – from its fairy-tale origins in 1740 to the animated Disney film released in 1991 to its musical stage premiere in 1994, and this season the magic is coming to you!
“This musical leaves us with a reminder that love endures everywhere, all the time, even when we think it may be lost to us. It’s there, ever just the same. Ever a surprise.” – The Guardian

CREATIVE TEAM
The 30th Anniversary production, also the first national tour in over 25 years, is newly reimagined with the goal of bringing the ‘tale as old as time’ to a new generation. Some of the original creative team members have reunited – from composer Alan Menken and lyricist Tim Rice to playwright Linda Woolverton and director and choreographer Matt West – to bring the same old Disney magic that took the world by storm to new audiences, while pleasing the existing Disney purists.
The creative team also includes the mind-blowing artistry of scenic designer Stanley. A. Meyer, costume designer Ann Hould-Ward, lighting designer Natasha Katz, musical supervisor and arranger Michael Kosarin, sound designer John Shivers, orchestrator Danny Troob, illusion designer Jim Steinmeyer, dance music arranger David Chase, and musical director and conductor David Andrews Rogers.
“Disney’s musical take on BEAUTY AND THE BEAST is a mesmerizing visual spectacle.” – Time Out Worldwide

“You can guarantee that Disney die-hards who can recite the story line-for-line or sing along with every vocal flourish will still be absolutely delighted.” – X-Press Magazine
HISTORY & LEGACY
The tale of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST goes back centuries.
Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont revised French novelist Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve’s anonymously published fairy tale, publishing it in 1756 Magasin des enfants – a children’s book containing a collection of tales. Through the years, the enchanting tale has been retold countless times, and finally in 1991, Walt Disney Pictures released its famed animated film with original music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, and book by Linda Woolverton.
Already leaning heavily into the realms of musical theatre, Disney CEO Michael Eisner took a giant leap with further developing the much-adored film for the stage. With additional songs by Alan Menken and an adaptation of the screenplay to libretto, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST premiered on Broadway in 1994. BEAUTY AND THE BEAST has since become the tenth longest running show on Broadway, grossed over $1.7 billion globally, and has been produced in 13 countries, in 115 cities. To date, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST received a Tony Award and a Laurence Olivier Award, among many nominations.
“Disney’s first Broadway show will be packing them in – and thumbing its nose at the naysayers – for a very long time.” – Variety
