Bass Concert Hall

Ever since Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, alongside esteemed playwrights Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, created ‘The Sound Of Music’, it became clear that it has been destined for international success.

A musical with a more sizable amount of well-known numbers is yet to be written; a production that can remain as apt and loved for nearly seven decades as ‘The Sound Of Music’ does not exist; and a tale as heart-warming, yet bravely addressing major social issues, is yet to be created.

To date, ‘The Sound Of Music’ has been revived numerous times - all to much acclaim. Since its premiere in 1959, it has received five Tony Awards, a Theatre World Award, and an Outer Critics Circle Special Award, alongside plenty of nominations. ‘The Sound Of Music’ has also been adapted into a tremendously successful film that has been enjoyed all around the globe for generations.

‘The Sound Of Music’, inspired by Maria von Trapp’s ‘The Story of the Trapp Family Singers, follows the tale of Maria, a free-spirited nun, who after being appointed as the governess of the seven children of Captain Georg von Trapp, brings back music and happiness to the family. The family is faced with many obstacles - from the imminent Nazi-threat brought about by the Anschluss to the blooming romance between Captain von Trapp - man who vowed to marry another, and Maria, who vowed to remain a nun.

The truth is that there is plenty to adore about ‘The Sound Of Music’: from the remarkable stagecraft of the all-star, age-defying cast, to the ageless, delightful music that becomes an earworm without any effort; from the rich orchestrations to the sets that change effortlessly from a grey cathedral to the old Austrian splendour of the Von Trapp house; from the feel-good tale about overcoming difficulty and an innocent love that blooms like the Edelweiss itself to the powerhouse cast that embodies their parts with perfection, delivers the music with proficiency, and steals hearts from the first notes.

‘The Sound Of Music’ is that one musical that will have you smiling, swaying, singing, and swooning all at once - and most noteworthy, will bless your ears, mind, and heart with the sound of music.
