Synopsis
Mamma Mia! follows single mother Donna, trying to handle her daughter Sophie’s upcoming wedding on a tiny island in Greece. Sophie has always dreamed of a classic white wedding, with her father walking her down the aisle (I HAVE A DREAM). But before the big day, Sophie is determined to uncover who her dad really is. The catch? Donna had three whirlwind romances in Greece twenty years ago. That leaves Sophie with three possible fathers—and she’s invited every one of them to the island for the wedding (HONEY, HONEY). The twist is, Harry, Sam, and Bill have no clue they might be someone’s dad. What could possibly go wrong?!
The trio believe they’ve been asked to the scenic island just for a wedding—until they discover they’ve actually been called back to Kalokairi (a fictional Greek island) for a much more surprising reason: a daughter they never knew about. Donna is just as shocked as they are (MAMMA MIA).
Donna now runs a tavern. She used to be the lead singer of the 1970s rock group “Donna and the Dynamos” with her friends Rosie and Tanya. When Rosie and Tanya arrive on the island for the wedding, they share memories and laugh about their past adventures (MONEY, MONEY, MONEY).
Mamma Mia! is told through ABBA’s timeless songs.

History and Awards
The title of the musical comes from ABBA’s 1975 hit song “Mamma Mia.” The entire show is built around ABBA’s iconic music. The band was active from 1972 to 1982 and became one of the most famous pop groups of all time. These chart-toppers are icons in every corner of the globe.
Mamma Mia! first opened in London’s West End at the Prince Edward Theatre on the 6th April 1999. It then moved to the Prince of Wales Theatre on the 9th June 2004, where it ran until September 2012. From there, it transferred to the Novello Theatre. The show crossed the pond and made its way to Broadway on the 18th October 2001 at the Winter Garden Theatre.
By fall 2017, the smash hit had become the ninth longest-running show on Broadway and the longest-running jukebox musical in Broadway history. How amazing is that?! In fact, Mamma Mia! is so popular that it’s been performed in more than 50 countries across all six continents. The show has also been adapted into a hugely successful film. Since its premiere, the musical has been staged in 16 languages and earned more than a whopping $4 billion worldwide. As many as 65 million people have seen (and loved!) it, and it even holds the record for opening in new cities faster than any other musical in history!!
