Girl From The North Country

April is off to a good start for musical aficionados in Austin! On Thursday 25th April 2024, the award-winning The Girl From the North Country will be performed live at the Bass Concert Hall for a spectacular evening! Set in a guesthouse during the early nineties in Duluth, Minnesota, we encounter the pack of stray voyagers whose lives have converged at the center of life, music and hope. Highlighting Kennedy Center Honoree Bob Dylan’s collection of favorite hits, the production is bound to leave its mark this spring! Give it your all in song as you jam on to “All Along The Watchtower,” “Hurricane,” “Slow Train Coming,” “Like A Rolling Stone,” and the iconic “Forever Young”! You can't afford to miss this seven-time Tony nominated musical that earned the award for Best Orchestrations as well as the Critics’ Circle Theatre Award for Most Promising Newcomer. Get on your horses and drop by the iconic theater at Austin for the premium viewing pleasure at the heart of Texas!

Authored and piloted by esteemed playwright Conor McPherson and featuring award-winning orchestrations by Simon Hale, Girl From the North Country redefines twenty iconic songs by the legend himself Bob Dylan in a fresh manner!

The inspiring plot of the musical unfolds in a comfortable lodge in Minnesota amidst the hardships of the Great Depression. It's a story that zooms into the lives of the characters staying there - guests and long-term residents alike. All of them carries their own cross and what makes this play intriguing is how it intertwines all these characters' lives.

The theatre show will include everyone’s favorite tracks including “Forever Young,” “Like A Rolling Stone” “All Along The Watchtower,” “Slow Train Coming,” and “Hurricane”

An interview with The Marlowe revolves around how director Conor McPherson had never directed a musical prior to this mission and found himself delighting in the refreshing experience. He highlights that when it comes to a straight play, the challenge lies in entertaining everyone merely through the script and performance. However, in a musical, there arise instances where someone might suggest, “Shall we have a refreshing pause for everyone's benefit?” and you'd positively accept, thinking it sounds quite fascinating.

Crowds are sure to be in awe by the work of the production’s star-studded core creatives team. Check out the full list of technical experts here below:
